Easiest explanation: In FPLC, the stationary phase is a solid or liquid in the form of matrix. In TLC, the stationary phase is immobilized on a glass plate and organic solvent acts as mobile phase. In HPLC, the sample is forced into the column at high pressure. Ion-exchange chromatography refers to use of ions for separation of the molecules.
