Calculate the wetted perimeter for a rectangular channel having top width of 4.5m and depth of 3m.

(a) 12m

(b) 10.5m

(c) 7.5m

(d) 15m

This question was addressed to me in homework.

Question is taken from Geometrical Properties of Rectangular Section topic in section Flow in Open Channels of Fluid Mechanics

Correct answer is (b) 10.5m

To explain I would say: Wetted Perimeter = Width + 2(Depth)

= 4.5 + 2(3)

= 10.5m.
