To explain I would say: Hans Westerhoff along with his colleagues used the microcalorimetry to measure the total fluxes in growing yeast cells. Some other techniques like fluorimetry showed that oscillations in the concentrations of glycolytic intermediates in yeast cells depend on the growth phase in which they are harvested.
