Which of the following is required for the synthesis of amino acids?

(a) Phosphorus

(b) Calcium

(c) Magnesium

The question was posed to me during an internship interview.

My question is based upon Media Design for Bioprocesses in section Equipping a Fermentation Laboratory, the Design and Preparation of Media for Bioprocesses of Fermentation Technology

The correct option is (d) Sulfur

The best explanation: Sulfur is used for the synthesis of amino acids and also for the production of vitamins e.g. biotin. It also acts as a coenzyme. The deficiency of sulfur leads to a reduction in protein synthesis. It also acts as an antibacterial agent against a few bacteria.
