(b) crushing

(c) sliding

The question was posed to me during an interview for a job.

My query is from Gravity Method topic in chapter Gravity Dam Design and Construction of Irrigation Engineering

Right option is (a) tension

To explain I would say: When eccentricity is greater than B/6 (eccentricity falls outside the middle third), tension may develop. When tension prevails, cracks develop near the heel and uplift pressure distribution increases reducing the net salinizing force.
