This question was posed to me in semester exam.

My question is taken from Single Slider Crank Chain and its Inversions topic in division Simple Mechanisms of Machine Kinematics

The correct choice is (c) 3

Easiest explanation: L = 8 = number of links

P = 9 = number of simple revolute joints

F = 3(L – 1) – 2P

  = 3(8 – 1) – 2 x 9

  = 21 – 18

  = 3.
