In fixed ring cell of consolidation, __________ is permitted to move in _________ direction.

(a) only top porous stone, downward

(b) only bottom porous stone, downward

My question is taken from Laboratory Consolidation Test topic in division One Dimensional Consolidation of Geotechnical Engineering I

Right option is (a) only top porous stone, downward

Best explanation: In fixed ring cell of consolidation, the bottom porous stone is kept fixed and load is applied at the top of the porous stone from the pressure pad. Due to the load compression, the specimen is moved in downward direction.
