If the discharge velocity is 1.35*10^-2cm/s and seepage velocity is 3.95*10^-2cm/s of water through a soil, then what will be its voids ratio?

(a) 0.32

(b) 0.43

(c) 0.52

(d) 0.66

I had been asked this question in an interview.

I'd like to ask this question from Seepage Pressure and Upward Flow in chapter Seepage Analysis of Geotechnical Engineering I

Right answer is (c) 0.52

For explanation: Given,

discharge velocity v=1.35*10^-2cm/s

seepage velocity \(v_p=\frac{(1+e)}{e}v\)

∴ vp=(1+e)/ev

3.95*10^-2=\(\frac{(1+e)}{e}1.35\)*10^-2

2.6e=1.35

∴ e=0.52.
