The hydraulic radius RH is related with the voids ratio as ________

(a) RH=Vs/eAs

(b) RH=eVsAs

(c) RH=e/AsVs

(d) RH=eVs/As

This question was posed to me by my college director while I was bunking the class.

This is a very interesting question from Poiseuille’s Law in portion Permeability of Geotechnical Engineering I

Right choice is (d) RH=eVs/As

The best explanation: The hydraulic radius RH is given by,

RH=A/P=AL/PL

AL=eVs

PL= As

∴  RH=eVs/As.
