The Pumps in series operation allow the head to increase and the pumps in parallel operation increase the flow rate.

(a) True

(b) False

I got this question by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

I'd like to ask this question from Hydro Electric Power in chapter Hydro Electric Power of Irrigation Engineering

Right answer is (a) True

To elaborate: When two or more pumps are connected in series, the same discharge passes through all the stages. Each stage in pumping operation adds an additional head to the flow. Thus the combined head is equal to the sum of individual heads for a specific discharge. In parallel, the head remains constant and the combined discharge is equal to the sum of individual discharges for a specific head.
