A car moving with speed u can be stopped in minimum distance x when brakes are applied. If the speed becomes n times, the minimum distance over which the car can be stopped would take the value

(a) x/n

(b) nx

(c) x/n^2

(d) n^2x

The question was posed to me during an internship interview.

My question is from Coefficient of Friction topic in section Friction of Machine Kinematics

The correct choice is (d) n^2x

Best explanation: x = u^2/2g

x’ = (nu)^2/2g

x’ = n^2x.
