If the area of contact between the two surfaces is increased by two times, what will be the effect of it on the force of friction?

(a) Increases by two times

(b) Decreases by two times

(c) Remains same

(d) Depends on the surface

I got this question in final exam.

My doubt stems from Limiting Friction topic in section Friction of Machine Kinematics

Correct choice is (c) Remains same

For explanation I would say: If the area of contact between the two surfaces is increased by two times then there will be no effect on the force of friction as it is independent of the area of contact surface.
