If the relative motion between two links of a mechanism is pure sliding, then the relative instantaneous center for these two links does not exist.

(a) True

(b) False

I had been asked this question in an international level competition.

My enquiry is from Forces Acting in a Mechanism in chapter Velocity in Mechanisms of Machine Kinematics

Correct option is (b) False

Easiest explanation: It does exists at infinity distance. Kennedy theorem says number of instantaneous center N = n(n – 1)/2
