This question was posed to me during an interview for a job.

The query is from Soil Samples and Samplers in section Stabilisation of Soils, Site Investigation and Sub – Soil Exploration of Geotechnical Engineering II

Right choice is (a) soft to stiff clays

For explanation I would say: Auger boring is suitable for soft to stiff clays as the soil samples can be removed in a less disturbed manner preserving most of the natural structure of sample as compared to the wash boring.
