What is atmospheric distillation?

(a) Separate low boiling fraction of mixture

(b) Separate high boiling fraction of mixture

(c) Concentration of low boiling fraction of mixture

The question was posed to me during an internship interview.

My question is based upon Batch Distillation topic in division Distillation of Food Processing Unit Operations

Correct option is (b) Separate high boiling fraction of mixture

Best explanation: Atmospheric distillation is used to separate low boiling fraction of mixture whereas vacuum distillation allows the components to be separated easily by lowering the boiling point of a high boiling fraction.
