The coefficient  of  drag for a transition settling is ____________

(a) CD = 18.5/R^0.6

(b) CD = 24/R

(c) CD = 8.5/R^0.6

(d) CD = R/24

I had been asked this question by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

This intriguing question comes from Grit Chambers, Tanks and Vacuum Floatation in chapter Unit Operations for Wastewater Treatment, Preliminary Treatment of Environmental Engineering

The correct option is (a) CD = 18.5/R^0.6

For explanation I would say: When  Reynolds number ‘R’ lies between 1 and 1000, the coefficient of drag CD is given by CD = 18.5/R^0.6.
