In a two dimensional flow, the component of the velocity along the X-axis and the Y-axis are u = ax^2 + bxy + cy^2 and v = cxy. What should be the condition for the flow field to be continuous?

(a) a + c = 0

(b) b + c = 0

(c) 2a + c = 0

(d) 2b + c = 0

Correct choice is (c) 2a + c = 0

For explanation I would say: According to the condition for continuity,

2ax + cx = 0

2a + c = 0.
