Calculate the value of maximum scour depth for a single span structure having normal scour depth 5m.

My question is based upon Culverts Construction topic in chapter Culverts and Small Road Bridges Construction of Irrigation Engineering

The correct choice is (b) 7.5 m

The explanation is: The factor of safety for single-span structure on a straight reach of the stream is generally taken as 1.5 and is taken as 2.0 for multi-span structures.

Maximum scour depth = 1.5 x 5 = 7.5 m.
