Correct choice is (a) Arch dam

The best I can explain: An arch dam is that dam in which stability of the dam against external forces is obtained partly due to the weight of the dam and partly due to transferring horizontal pressure to the abutments. The presence of sound abutments is an important requirement and is suitable for narrow valleys.
