In a point-to-point type of NC system

(a) Control of position and velocity of the tool is essential

(b) Control of only position of the tool is sufficient

(c) Control of only velocity of the tool is sufficient

(d) Neither position nor velocity need to be controlled

The question was asked in semester exam.

I need to ask this question from Programme for Four Bar Mechanism topic in chapter Computer Aided Analysis and Synthesis of Mechanisms of Machine Dynamics

The correct option is (b) Control of only position of the tool is sufficient

Best explanation: Point to point is also sometimes called a positioning system. In PTP the objective of the machine tool control system is to move the cutting tool to predefined location.  The speeder path by which this movement is accomplished is not important in point to point NC.  Once the tool reaches the desired location, the machining operation is performed at that position.
