I had been asked this question during an interview for a job.

Question is from Shapes of Wells and Component Parts in division Well Foundations of Geotechnical Engineering II

Right choice is (c) Diameter of well is more than required

To elaborate: The disadvantage of a circular well is that in the direction parallel to the span of the bridge, the diameter of the well is much more than the minimum size required.
