The question was posed to me by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

The correct answer is (a) undisturbed clay

For explanation: To find the pre-consolidation pressure, undisturbed clay is used. The disturbed samples can have drastic effects on the pre-consolidation pressure. The effect of sample disturbance on the values of pre-consolidation pressure can be shown by using Schmertmann method.
