What happens to velocity in the diverging duct?

(b) Decreases

The question was posed to me by my college director while I was bunking the class.

I would like to ask this question from Flow of Compressible Fluid through Orifices and Nozzles in portion Compressible Flow of Fluid Mechanics

Correct answer is (b) Decreases

The explanation: Mass flow rate is given by Q = m/p. This is a relation expressed for mass flow rate. With the presence of a converging duct, the velocity decreases. At this point, the area of the duct is more than zero.
