Which of the following compound can be broken down by the algal biomass in the waste water?

(a) Iron

(b) Nitrogen

(c) Sodium

This question was addressed to me by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

The question is from Microalgal Culture topic in division Biotechnological Approaches of Microalgal Culture of Environmental Biotechnology

Correct answer is (b) Nitrogen

Best explanation: Phosphorus and Nitrogen compounds are present in the waste water and those need to be degraded to get better quality of water which is done by microbial biofilms, Iron, sodium and potassium are treated as highly toxic compounds.
