What happens if inductors are used in low frequency applications?

(a) Enhance inductor usage

(b) No losses occurs

(c) Degrades inductor performance

(d) Low power dissipation

I have been asked this question by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

My question is taken from Active Filters topic in division Active Filters of Linear Integrated Circuits

Answer: (c) Degrades inductor performance

At low frequencies, inductors become impractical because:

1. Inductance impedance decreases at low frequencies (Z = 2πfL)

2. Very large inductance values are needed, making components bulky and expensive

3. Parasitic resistance becomes significant relative to reactance

4. Core losses increase due to eddy currents and hysteresis

5. Poor frequency response and signal distortion

This is why capacitors are preferred for low-frequency filtering applications instead of inductors.
