Right option is (a) 0.53 N/m^2

The explanation: The given size of the particle is less than 6 mm so; shield’s equation cannot be used. The general relation is given by Mittal and Swamee which gives results within +5% of the values of Shield’s curve for all particle sizes.

Tc = 0.155 + [0.409 d2/(1 + 0.177 d2)^0.5]

= 0.155 + [0.409 x 12/(1 + 0.177 x 12)^0.5] = 0.53 N/m^2.
