Hooke’s law states that within elastic limit, ______

(a) stress is directly proportional to strain

The doubt is from Generalised Hooke’s Law in division Elements of Elasticity of Geotechnical Engineering I

Correct answer is (a) stress is directly proportional to strain

For explanation I would say: In the simplest form, the Hooke’s law states that within the elastic limit, stress is directly proportional to strain.

∴ Stress ∝ Strain.
