When inertia of gearing is taken into consideration, then an additional shaft must be introduced in the equivalent system of the rotors connected by the shaft.

(a) True

(b) False

This question was posed to me by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

My doubt stems from Free Torsional Vibrations of a Geared System in section Torsional Vibrations of Machine Dynamics

The correct answer is (b) False

For explanation I would say: For gearing system, if the inertia of the gear is taken into consideration then an additional rotor must be placed in the equivalent system of vibration.
