The water table is at the ground   level and backfill has saturated unit weight as 22KN/m^3. The height of wall is 6m and Ka=1/3. Find the pressure intensity, if free water stands on other face of wall.

(a) 45.82 KN/m^2

(b) 78.28 KN/m^2

(c) 24.38 KN/m^2

(d) 56.27 KN/m^2

I had been asked this question during an online exam.

I'm obligated to ask this question of Earth Pressure Problems topic in section Failure Envelopes & Earth Pressure of Geotechnical Engineering II

The correct choice is (c) 24.38 KN/m^2

The best I can explain: Given,

Free water stands on both sides of wall, so the effect of water pressure is not considered

Pa=Ka γ’ H=\((\frac{1}{3})\) ×12.19×6

Pa= 24.38 kN/m^2.
