I got this question in unit test.

My question is taken from Design of Sedimentation Tank in portion Sedimentation and Chemical Clarification of Environmental Engineering

The correct answer is (b) Flowing through period

For explanation I would say: The average time required by water to pass through the settling tank is called ‘flowing through period’ which is always less than the detention period.
